HORT 202: Horticulture Sciences Lab

This is the lab for HORT 201 which gives hands-on experience with the information we learn in lecture along with more in-depth information in certain areas such as plant cuttings, tree structures, etc. Throughout the semester we conducted a series of experiments to test various plants, potting soil mixes, and seeds; including testing chilling injury in tropical foliage plants and the effect of commercial "rooting hormones."

Included below is an example of some of the work done in the lab. This particular example is documenting the chilling injury of coleus plants and providing details about the look of the plants over time.

HORT 203: Floral Design

This class has a lecture and lab that teaches about the different design structures for floral arrangements, different flowers and foliage, techniques in the trade such as form and color, and the history of art and floral design. It has begun my learning of creating beautiful arrangements and will help me in my future career of event planning to be able to know all aspects of my job by helping create designs for weddings or know exact specifications to give to florists for what a customer prefers.

Included below is an example of the work I have completed in the class. This work is actually a powerpoint documentation of some of the designs I had created over the course and all the information pertaining to them.

HORT 332: Landscape Graphics

This class is about providing graphic drawings of landscapes at a professional level to represent potential landscape productions. In addition, not just black and white drawings but also color to give a deeper representation.

Included below is an example of some of the work conducted in class.  This particular assignment was used to give us experience working with vellum paper and ink markers. Also, mastering and visually seeing the differences between using different line weights.

HORT 335: Sociohorticulture

This is the class to be able to understand the interaction between humans and plants and how plants improve everyday life.

Included below is an example of some of the work I have completed within the course. This example includes my service learning project in which I volunteered with the Big Event and described how people interacted with plants in this volunteer environment. Also, about how plants impact the future and how we are helping them become real.
